The 7th annual Tesla Day and the 154th anniversary of his birthday were celebrated on Saturday evening, 10th of July at the Parmelia Hilton Hotel. Enormous interest and support for this event was demonstrated by all tickets being sold out a couple of months ahead! The evening was hosted by Jovana Nesic. Representatives from academic, professional and engineering organizations, as well as general public interested Nikola Tesla’s work, and in science and education, filled the Swan Room.
Slavica Dimitrijevic, President of Tesla Forum, reviewed the past years activities and highlights and announced two major projects for next year: Nikola Tesla Scholarship for PhD students at the University of Western Australia (UWA); and a Tesla Exhibition from the Nikola Tesla Museum in Belgrade (Serbia) at Perth Town Hall in July 2011 ! Bill Marmion, Minister of Science and Innovation; Commerce; Housing; Minister Assisting Treasurer, acknowledged the contribution of Tesla Forum to W.A. community and emphasized the importance of recognizing the legacy of Nikola Tesla to Australians. This year’s keynote speaker was His Grace Bishop Irinej (Dobrijevic), Serbian Orthodox Bishop of Australia & New Zealand and one of the driving forces behind the Tesla Memorial Society of New York Inc. His presentation on Nikola Tesla’s spiritually enthralled all present. All felt privileged for having had the unique opportunity to hear such an inspirational speech and explanations of the background and motivation and inspiration for Tesla’s ideas and work. His Grace discussed Tesla’s spirituality, his Christian Orthodox worldview and its impact on his work and his aspirations to dedicate his life and work to the benefit of humanity. Hon. Lisa Scaffidi, Lord Mayor City of Perth, also expressed her appreciation for the work done by Tesla Forum in previous 7 years and reaffirmed the support City of Perth will provide for the Nikola Tesla Museum’ s exhibition planned at the Perth Town Hall in July 2011.
