STAWA On-line Science Quiz

Tesla Forum of WA, in conjunction with the Science Teachers’ Association of WA (STAWA), helped organize the first annual ON-LINE SCIENCE QUIZ.

This was an on-line quiz run through the STAWA web site during Science Week. It consisted of two rounds of 15 questions and students, in groups of four, were given one hour of in-class time to complete the multiple choice quiz and submit their answers.

STAWA is very pleased with the response to this inaugural competition. About 150 high schools participated and with several groups entering from each school, the quiz had very high exposure. Not only did students enter from Western Australia, but there were schools from the ACT, NSW and Victoria competing.

The Tesla Forum submitted questions related to Nikola Tesla and his work to STAWA and these questions were used as part of each quiz. We were keen to aim at the Year 9 and Year 10 grades and so only submitted questions at this level.
Of the 15 questions in each of the two rounds, five were directly related to Nikola Tesla’s life and works.

The Tesla Forum has undertaken to sponsor the Year 9 and Year 10 quizzes and many thanks go to ABB for their generous donation of the prize money. Corpus Christie College won the Year 9 competition and Willetton High School won the Year 10 competition.

One of Tesla Forum’s objectives of recognition of the life and works of Nikola Tesla has been accomplished through this competition. It reaches widely throughout Western Australia and also interstate. It has directly linked into mainstream education system and brought Nikola Tesla directly into classrooms of 14 and 15 year old students.

Our thanks go to STAWA for their encouragement and appreciation of Tesla Forum’s input and also to ABB for their generous financial support.
